Why we built it

Most font generators are slow, cluttered, and quietly hand out broken characters. FontsAndSymbols is built to be the opposite: fast, clean, and exact down to every character.

How every character is checked

• Every styled letter is looked up by its official Unicode name, never typed by hand, so the generator can't produce a character that doesn't exist.
• We use the Unicode Consortium's own data files to know when each character was added, and leave out the ones added after 2010 that older devices can't display.
• No style uses letters from right-to-left alphabets, which would scramble the order of your text.
• Automated tests check every style against every letter and digit each time the site is built, and check that the browser produces exactly the same result as our reference code.
• Where Unicode simply has no version of a letter, we say so on the page instead of swapping in a random lookalike.

Where our facts come from

Character names, code points and ages come from the Unicode Character Database. Facts about apps (like Discord's formatting codes or how X counts characters) come from those companies' own help pages, which we link to. If we can't verify something, we don't publish it.
