Two kinds of cursive
Cursive Bold (𝓛𝓲𝓴𝓮 𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓼) is the one you see most in bios: every letter comes from Unicode's Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, so all 52 letters match.
Cursive (ℒ𝒾𝓀ℯ 𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓈) is lighter and more elegant, but 11 of its letters come from a different block: B → ℬ, E → ℰ, F → ℱ, H → ℋ, I → ℐ, L → ℒ, M → ℳ, R → ℛ, e → ℯ, g → ℊ, o → ℴ. Those letters were already in Unicode before the mathematical block was created, so Unicode points to the older ones. Some fonts draw them in a slightly different design, which is why a cursive B can look a little different from the A next to it.
Cursive capital letters
Both styles have all 26 capitals. If you need just one, for an initial or a monogram, tap it in the alphabets above to copy that letter alone. Hover over a letter (or long-press it) to see its official Unicode name.
Cursive numbers
Unicode has no cursive digits, so numbers stay as you typed them. If you want styled numbers next to cursive text, the bold style has its own digits: 𝟎𝟏𝟐𝟑𝟒𝟓𝟔𝟕𝟖𝟗.
Planning a tattoo?
Use this to try out words, not as the final design. These letters are drawn by whatever font your phone happens to have, so the same text looks different on an iPhone, an Android phone and a laptop. A tattoo artist works from a real typeface or hand lettering.
Before you paste
It's different text, not just a different look. To a computer, 𝒽ℯ𝓁𝓁ℴ is not the word hello. Keep the words people search for (your name, your shop, your username) in plain letters.
Screen readers may stumble. They can announce each styled letter by its Unicode name (“mathematical bold capital H”) or skip it, which makes the text hard to follow for people who rely on them. Use styles for a few words, not for whole paragraphs.
It can count double. Many styled letters (all the cursive, bold, italic and gothic ones) live outside the first 65,536 Unicode characters, so they take two UTF-16 code units. Web forms that limit length with the HTML maxlength attribute count those units, and X counts these letters as two characters each toward its 280-character limit.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get cursive text on Instagram or TikTok?
Type your words here, tap the cursive style you like to copy it, and paste it into your bio, caption or comment. It pastes like normal text because it is text: Unicode characters that look cursive.
Why does the cursive B (or E, F, H…) look different?
In the regular Cursive style, B, E, F, H, I, L, M, R, e, g and o come from Unicode's Letterlike Symbols block instead of the mathematical block, and some fonts draw them differently. Cursive Bold doesn't have this issue.
Is there cursive for numbers?
No. Unicode doesn't include cursive digits, so they stay plain.
Will the cursive look the same for everyone?
The letters will be the same, but each device draws them with its own font, so the exact shapes vary a little between phones and computers.
