Invisible Character
Tap to copy a character that shows up as empty space. They're not all the same: some are letters, some are spaces, some have no width at all. The table below shows which is which.

Copy an invisible character
Each button copies one character. They all look empty, but each behaves differently: see the table below.
Blank text generator
Copy many invisible characters at once, for example to make an empty-looking line.
Invisible character detector
Paste any text to see every character in it, including the ones you can't see.
Every invisible character, compared
Each column comes straight from Unicode's data (the JavaScript column from running trim() on each character). “Unicode whitespace” characters are the ones programs strip from the start and end of text; “default ignorable” ones are characters that software may skip entirely when it displays text, if it doesn't specifically support them.

Which invisible character should you use?
- To look empty but still count as text: ㅤ (
U+3164HANGUL FILLER) or ⠀ (U+2800BRAILLE PATTERN BLANK). Neither is whitespace in Unicode, so code that trims spaces leaves them in place. - To keep two words on the same line: the no-break space (U+00A0).
- To mark where a line may break, without adding space: the zero-width space (U+200B).
- To join emoji: the zero-width joiner (U+200D) is what glues emoji into combined ones like 👩💻; the zero-width non-joiner (U+200C) stops letters from joining in scripts such as Persian.
Why “empty” names get rejected, and why some characters get through
If an app checks for an empty name by stripping whitespace first, characters like the no-break space are removed and the name counts as empty. The Hangul filler is classified as a letter and the Braille blank as a symbol, so they survive that check. Whether an app accepts them is up to the app.
Use them responsibly
Don't use invisible characters to impersonate someone, to slip past filters or to spam. Platforms can remove them or treat that as breaking their rules.
How the detector works
It lists every character in the text you paste, with its code point, and highlights the invisible ones. Use it to find hidden characters in copied text, names or code. Nothing you paste leaves your browser.
Frequently asked questions
What is “the” invisible character?
There isn't just one. The one most people copy is ㅤ, U+3164 HANGUL FILLER: a placeholder from Korean text encoding that displays as a blank. The Braille blank (U+2800) and the zero-width space (U+200B) are the other common choices.
How do I send a blank message?
Copy an invisible character, paste it into the message box and send. Whether it goes through depends on the app.
Is the Braille blank really blank?
Yes: U+2800 BRAILLE PATTERN BLANK is the braille cell with no dots raised, so it's drawn as empty space.
Can invisible characters cause problems?
They can make two pieces of text that look identical different to a computer, which breaks searches, comparisons and code. Paste suspicious text into the detector above to find them.
