Dagger or cross?
† (U+2020 DAGGER) and ‡ (U+2021 DOUBLE DAGGER) are typographic marks, used for footnotes after the asterisk. On Windows they have Alt codes (Alt+0134 and Alt+0135), which the crosses don't.
