Which check mark to use

U+2713CHECK MARK) for a light, plain tick. - ✔ (
U+2714HEAVY CHECK MARK) when it needs to stand out. - ☑ (
U+2611BALLOT BOX WITH CHECK) and ☐ (U+2610BALLOT BOX) for checklists. - √ (
U+221ASQUARE ROOT) is the square root sign, not a check mark, even though it looks similar.
How to type a check mark
On Windows, press Windows + . (period) while typing and open the Symbols tab of the emoji panel. Symbols that have a Windows Alt code are listed in the table: hold Alt and type the number on the numeric keypad.
On a Mac, press Fn/Globe + E (or choose Edit > Emoji & Symbols) to open the Character Viewer, and search for the symbol's name.
On a phone, the quickest way is to copy it from this page.

How do I type a check mark?

No. ✓ is a plain text character; ✅ is the check mark button emoji, which phones draw in color.
