Symbols for names

Tap a symbol to copy it on its own, then paste it before or after your name to build your own decoration.

What these symbols are

Most of them are characters from writing systems and technical blocks, picked for their shape: ꧁ (U+A9C1 JAVANESE LEFT RERENGGAN) and ꧂ (U+A9C2 JAVANESE RIGHT RERENGGAN) are Javanese punctuation, 亗 (U+4E97 CJK UNIFIED IDEOGRAPH-4E97) is a Chinese character, ♛ (U+265B BLACK CHESS QUEEN) is the black chess queen, and the sniper ▄︻デ══━一 is built from a block element, a vertical bracket form, the katakana デ (U+30C7 KATAKANA LETTER DE) and box-drawing lines.

Will an app or game accept a decorated name?

Each app and game decides which characters it allows in names, and some refuse symbols or limit the length. Facebook, for example, doesn't allow symbols in names. If a name is refused, try a shorter frame or fewer symbols.

Before you paste

It's different text, not just a different look. To a computer, 𝒽ℯ𝓁𝓁ℴ is not the word hello. Keep the words people search for (your name, your shop, your username) in plain letters.

Screen readers may stumble. They can announce each styled letter by its Unicode name (“mathematical bold capital H”) or skip it, which makes the text hard to follow for people who rely on them. Use styles for a few words, not for whole paragraphs.

It can count double. Many styled letters (all the cursive, bold, italic and gothic ones) live outside the first 65,536 Unicode characters, so they take two UTF-16 code units. Web forms that limit length with the HTML maxlength attribute count those units, and X counts these letters as two characters each toward its 280-character limit.

Frequently asked questions

How do I put symbols in my game name?

Type your name above, copy the decorated version and paste it into the game's name field. Whether it's accepted depends on the game's own rules.

Why do some symbols show up as boxes?

The device has no font with that character. Every symbol here has been in Unicode since 2010 or earlier, which avoids most boxes, but an app with its own limited font can still show one.

Can I put a fancy font inside a frame?

Yes. Copy a font from the list, paste it back into the box, then copy a frame.
