How to type ñ on any device
- Windows: hold Alt and type the code on the numeric keypad: ñ 0241. The table below has every code.
- Mac: press and hold n and the accent menu shows the accented letters; click one or press the number shown under it. Accent menus aren't available in every app. Or press Option-N, then n.
- iPhone: touch and hold n, then slide to the accented letter you want.

One character or two?
ñ is a single character, U+00F1 LATIN SMALL LETTER N WITH TILDE. Unicode can also build it from two: the plain letter n followed by U+0303 COMBINING TILDE. Both forms are canonically equivalent, so they're meant to look and behave the same, but in code the first is one code point and the second is 2. That's why a character count can say 2 for something that looks like one letter.
