Posts, comments and bios
Styled text pastes into Facebook posts and comments like any other text. It's handy for a bold headline in a long post (𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀:) or for making one line stand out. Keep most of the post plain so it stays readable and searchable.
Your Facebook name: keep it plain
Facebook's rules for names don't allow “symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, repeating characters or punctuation” or “characters from multiple languages” (Facebook Help Center). Styled letters are unusual characters, so a styled name may be rejected. Use the styles in posts and comments instead.
Before you paste
It's different text, not just a different look. To a computer, 𝒽ℯ𝓁𝓁ℴ is not the word hello. Keep the words people search for (your name, your shop, your username) in plain letters.
Screen readers may stumble. They can announce each styled letter by its Unicode name (“mathematical bold capital H”) or skip it, which makes the text hard to follow for people who rely on them. Use styles for a few words, not for whole paragraphs.
It can count double. Many styled letters (all the cursive, bold, italic and gothic ones) live outside the first 65,536 Unicode characters, so they take two UTF-16 code units. Web forms that limit length with the HTML maxlength attribute count those units, and X counts these letters as two characters each toward its 280-character limit.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write in bold on Facebook?
Copy one of the bold styles above and paste it into your post or comment.
Can I use fancy fonts in my Facebook name?
Facebook's name rules exclude symbols and characters from multiple languages, so expect a styled name to be refused. Use plain letters for your name.
