Where these emoji come from
Every emoji here comes from Unicode's official list, in the order Unicode sorts them, up to Emoji 17.0. Each one has its official name and keywords from CLDR, Unicode's database of names in each language: that's what the search box looks in.
That's 1,914 emoji, plus the skin-tone versions of 312 of them. Each group has its own page with all of its emoji.
How to type emoji
- On Windows, press Windows + . (period) while typing to open the emoji panel, and search for the emoji by name.
- On a Mac, press Fn/Globe + E (or choose Edit > Emoji & Symbols) to open the Character Viewer, which has a search box.
- On a phone, the quickest way is to copy it from this page.
Skin tones
Unicode has five skin-tone modifiers, from light skin tone to dark skin tone. Unicode says they are based on the six tones of the Fitzpatrick scale, a standard in dermatology, and that the exact shades may vary between phones and apps.
Without a modifier, a person or hand emoji uses a generic, non-realistic color, such as yellow. Pick a tone above and every emoji that Unicode defines with all five tones changes: 312 of the 1,914 emoji on this site.
Why an emoji shows as a box
Every year Unicode adds new emoji, and phones and computers that haven't been updated don't have them yet, so they show an empty box instead. The name of each emoji here ends with the year it was added.
This site lists everything up to Emoji 17.0 (September 2025). The emoji of Emoji 18.0 aren't included yet: none of the browsers we test with can draw them.
Frequently asked questions
How many emoji are there?
Up to Emoji 17.0, Unicode's list has 1,914 emoji without counting skin tones. 312 of them also come in five skin tones, and each tone is a separate emoji when you count them all.
Where do the emoji names come from?
From CLDR, the Common Locale Data Repository that Unicode publishes: it gives every emoji a short name and a list of keywords in each language. The names here are the English ones; the Spanish page uses the Spanish ones.
How do I copy several emoji at once?
Tap each one: every emoji you tap is copied and also added to the box at the top. When you have them all, press Copy all.
Do these emoji work on Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp?
Yes. Emoji are standard Unicode characters, so they paste like any other text. Each app or phone draws them with its own design, so the same emoji can look a little different from one place to another.
